Heart Healthy Oatmeal

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is a great way to start your day! Oatmeal is full of omega-3 fatty acids, folate, and potassium. This fiber-rich superfood can lower levels of LDL (or bad) cholesterol and help keep arteries clear. Oatmeal is the product of ground oat groats . The term, ‘oatmeal’ can refer also to other products made from oat groats, such as cut oats, crushed oats, and rolled oats.

You should try and stick to the steel-cut oats over the instant varieties. The coarse and steel-cut oats contain more fiber. Most of the instant varieties have different flavors which add sugar! Try and stay away from these! Try adding fresh fruit to your oats to add natural flavoring and added vitamins and minerals. I like a little soy milk with mine.
